Rejoicing in things as they are

rejoicing

when we begin to see clearly what we do, how we get hooked and swept away by old habits, our usual tendency is to use that as a reason to get discouraged, a reason to feel really bad about ourselves. Instead, we could realize how remarkable it is that we actually have the capacity to see ourselves honestly, and that doing this takes courage. It is moving in the direction of seeing our life as a teacher rather than as a burden.        From: Pema Chodron

Opportunities or challenges?

Summing up, it is clear the future holds great opportunities. It also holds pitfalls. The trick will be to avoid the pitfalls seize the opportunities and get back home by six o’clock. –Woody Allenmare and foal

Why would I need a coach?

life skills coaching

This is a question I was asked yesterday and thought I would share my answer:

What is a coach?

  • A coach is future orientated; positive, and outcome focused.
  • By honoring the advice free zone, the coach empowers the client to explore and discover what is right for him/her.
  • A coach assists the client to find his/her inner resources to discover “their own magnificence” (Ellerton,2006).
  • According to ICF: : Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.[ http://icf.files.cms-plus.com/includes/docs/Ethics-Issue-Oct-09Revised.pdf].

 What does a coach do?

  • Gives the client the opportunity to come up with their own insights and solutions because the client already has all the resources within them to be a success.
  • Provides the opportunity for clients to work on their goals for the future and create a new life path.
  • Remains neutral –making no assumptions, refraining from being judgmental, and not being prescriptive or instructional.

How might a coach help you?

You may have an issue that you feel ‘stuck in’; you may feel overwhelmed and not sure which direction to take. Solution -focused coaching focuses on  your present, in order to help you create actionable strategies for achieving specific goals in your personal and work life and act towards the future. The emphasis in a coaching relationship is on action, accountability; focusing on client directed solutions, awareness of the full present and future potential.
